Identification and removal of asbestos from buildings, factories and contaminated land sites is a highly specialised procedure requiring detailed knowledge of appropriate legislation and technologies.
The NPL Group can now offer a comprehensive asbestos management service, from initial survey to final clearance on projects of all sizes.
Asbestos has been used in buildings for insulation purposes since early last century. It presents a very serious health risk and has been subject to stringent Health & Safety legislation for many decades.
In an effort to further reduce the numbers of cases of asbestos-related diseases, the Government has revised the regulations governing asbestos in the workplace. Businesses are now required to undertake a suitable survey of their premises and to identify and record any materials containing asbestos to ensure they are either removed or inspected regularly to monitor any degradation. The report must also be made available to tradesmen prior to any work being undertaken on the building.
Depending on the extent and condition of the asbestos, the surveys can take several forms, and NPL Analytical is ideally positioned to undertake this type of work.
Sampling should be undertaken by highly trained analysts using Dispersion Staining Optical Microscopy and working to detailed technical procedures. NPL Analytical’s UKAS accredited laboratories meet these rigorous standards for the analysis of asbestos in suspect materials.
